the united arab emirates pavilion designed by foster + partners (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) is a huge golden sand
dune reminiscent of the country's desert. the outer covering of the pavilion is gold-colored
stainless steel. its undulating roof, looking as if it has been shaped by the wind, makes
the pavilion shimmer and change colors, thus, reminding visitors of the middle east
country's various natural environments. with a capacity of 450 people and enclosing
3,000 square metres of exhibition space, the pavilion is one of the largest structures
built for the 2010 shanghai expo (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.).

desert comprised of sands in red, golden and white colors, the ups and downs of hills,
a scattered oasis ringed with ancient camel bells, and boats with glimmering sails on
the ocean are all staged in the video inside the pavilion, reminding visitors of what an
important role the natural environment and wild life play in the culture and lifestyle
of the UAE people.

the shape of the pavilion is designed in response to shanghai's weather. it protects against
the direct glare of the city's summer sun but allows indirect light to enter the pavilion
via louvers. visitors approach the 'dunes' by a walkway, which follows a stream of
water towards the entrance.

singapore pavilion at shanghai expo 2010 by kay ngee tan architects

'urban symphony' is the name of the singapore pavilion by kay ngee tan architects (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.)
for the shanghai expo 2010. the pavilion will span 3000sqm designed to resemble
a music box, consisting of three parts. four columns of different shapes and sizes
support its structural system and floors above. the ground floor will showcase projected
images, live theatre performances and activities within the atrium space and main hall.

urban symphony aims to show rhythm and beat through the pavilion's architecture
of water fountain movements, window and sunshade fins layouts on the façade, with
the interplay of sounds and visuals on different levels.

the pavilion will be constructed from recyclable aluminum and steel for the facade
and reinforced concrete for the foundations, floor slabs and columns.

israeli pavilion nearing completion

here, is an update of the israeli pavilion (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) at shanghai expo 2010 (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) designed by architect
haim z. dotan (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.).

24 meters in height, the 1200 square meter pavilion is built on a 2000 square meter site
and its construction is nearing completion. the structure consists of two architectural curvilinear
forms which hug each other like two hands or two shells, symbolizing a quiet conversation
between man and earth, man and man, nation and nation. the pavilion continuously transforms
as the light changes during the day and night. the two hands / shells present the dialogue between
man and nature, past and future, temporality and eternity, earth and sky, substance and the virtual.
within the forms, are two architectural spaces, symbolizing the spirituality of the
ancient jewish nation.

the danish pavillion in shanghai 2010 should not only exhibit the danish virtues.
trough interaction, the visitors are able to experience some of copenhagen's best attractions:
the city bike, the harbour bath, the nature playground and an ecological picnic.
relaunching the bike in shanghai as a symbol of modern lifestyle and sustainable
urban development. the pavillion's 1500 city bikes are offered for general use to
the visitors during expo 2010. after the world exhibition it can be moved and relocated in
for example peoples park - as a transferium for the bikes of shanghai.
a harbor bath is located in the hearth of the pavillion filled with seawater
from copenhagen harbor. it is the original little mermaid sculpture visiting china as a
specific example of the idea that the danish pavillion offers the real experience
of the real danish city life.

urban plan proposal for ansan city by BIG, INABA, MAD and mass studies

four architecture offices, BIG, INABA, MAD, and mass studies have proposed
an urban plan for ansan, south korea. the proposal is currently on view
at the gyeonggi museum of modern art (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) (GMoMA) in ansan city until february 15, 2009

the joint project by the four firms, BIG (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) (copenhagen), INABA (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) (los angeles),
MAD (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) (beijing), an mass studies (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) (seoul) uses versatile architectural forms
that change in size and use. th principals of the four offices, bjarke ingels,
jeffrey inaba, yansong ma, and minsuk cho reinterpret the term ‘economies of scale’
to mean the value of a single architectural form tha functions at several scales.
the works are adaptable enough so that the same form can b enlarged or shrunk
and still function as a building. they have the added capacity to dramatically
change in size and transform in use from building to furniture to toy.
given today’s economic instability, the architects propose an architecture that can
be sized to accommodate changes in available funding. the forms have been developed
so that if a project’s investment capital decreases, it can be scaled down;
alternatively, if greater financing becomes available, the same form can be scaled up.
a project conceived with greater utility in mind so that the form can be enjoyed even
when reduced or increased by 40, 50, or 60 percent.

the plan for riverfront area of ansan, a city of 550,000 inhabitants located near seoul,
includes housing, commercial, retail and municipal spaces. the proposed buildings
which range in height from 80to 400 meters and in length up to 1500 meters are displayed
in the museum lobby in drawings, animations and four large models.
in the context of the exhibition, the architects have taken the idea
of scalabilit further by developing works that function
even when scaled 1,000 and 10,000 percent.
the models are also designed as inhabitable objects in their own right.
each model of their urban plan is a furniture piece of their lobby plan.
th three‐dimensional representations of the buildings function as elements
of GMoMA’s interio serving as a new bookshop, a set of seats and tables,
a lounge area, and a reception kiosk.

taichung convention center by MAD architects

beijing based MAD architects (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) have sent us in images of their latest project the
taichung convention center, their first project in taiwan.

the design is conceived as a continuous weave of architecture and landscape that blurs
the boundary between architecture, public space and urban landscape, proposing a futuristic
vision based on the east 's naturalistic philosophy. the open courtyards that connect the individual
'mountain' are integrated into a natural sequence of outdoor spaces. like the quest for a harmonic
coexistence between people and nature exemplified by forbidden city and ancient chinese gardens,
this project seeks greater meaning in its non-material qualities, spaces encircled with the upmost
naturalistic spirit. a single tree, a patch of bamboo, or a pond become central figures of the space.
this approach to sustainable development is based not on technology, but on traditional philosophy
and aesthetics.

influenced by the local winter landscapes, the design aims to expand on the contrasting
qualities between nature and the speed of daily life. the 200 meter-long museum negotiates
the site's conditions while exploring the relationship between the building and the environment,
resulting in a dynamic form that resembles a frozen fluid.

in line with the continuous nature of the exterior, the museum's circulation flows
uninterrupted between two exhibition spaces. connected by a central entrance,
curved wall forms open up to the skylights above, filling the voids adjacent to

visual transparency, connecting the energy of the building's activities together.

thematic pavilion expo 2012 yeosu, south korea by soma
all images courtesy soma

austrian firm soma (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) has recently finished the work on the construction plans of the thematic
pavilion for the expo 2012 yeosu in korea. their winning design proposal (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) was announced in
2009 and now has successfully been adapted to fit the building budget and exhibition concept.
the kinetic media facade was developed according bionic principles to underline the expo’s
agenda. soma's project will be presented as a part of the austrian exhibition for the venice
architecture biennale 2010 (لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.) - curated by eric owen moss.
construction of the pavilion is due to begin next month.
لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.

as a major and permanent facility the thematic pavilion embodies the expo’s theme 'the living
ocean and coast' in manifold ways. the ocean is experienced in two ways, as an endless surface
and in an immersed perspective as depth. the plain duality of the ocean motivates the building’s
spatial and organisational concept. continuous surfaces twist from vertical to horizontal orientation
and define all significant interior spaces. the vertical cones induce the visitor to immerse into
the thematic exhibition. they evolve into horizontal levels that cover the foyer and become a flexible
stage for the best practice area. continuous transitions between contrasting experiences also form
the outer appearance of the pavilion. towards the sea the conglomeration of solid vertical cones
define a new meandering coast line, a soft edge that is in constant negotiation between water
and land. opposite side the pavilion develops out of the ground into an artificial roof landscape
with gardens and scenic paths. the topographic lines of the roof turn into lamellas of the kinetic
media facade that faces the expo’s entrance and the 'digital gallery'.

the building will be erected in a former industrial harbour along a new promenade. bridges
will connect the pavilion to the expo site. after the expo and the aspired improvement of water
quality the promenade will be transformed into an 'urban beach' offering leisure activities to
the public.

لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.

the main entrance is situated on ocean plaza, which is partly covered by the pavilion to achieve
a shaded outdoor waiting area. the space boundaries of the open foyer are defined by the twisting
surfaces of the cones. the interstitial spaces between them frame the view onto the ocean and create
niches for the visitors to take a pause from the exhibition. the sequence of pre-show, main show
and post show is spatially modulated: lingering through the first two small cones with a ceiling height
of 8 meters people arrive at the main show, a 20 meter high space of 1000square meters. after
the show people arrive again at the lower and more intimate post-show that leads to the café and a
swimming island in the open water, where they can relax and experience the movement of the ocean.
visitors with a deeper interest can take the escalator to the second level, where the best practice area,
an open, flexible day-lit space is located. here institutions will present their research in fields like
renewable energies or marine technology. from the foyer or the best practice area visitors can take
stairs or lifts up to the roof top garden. the roof-landscape functions as a third exhibition area, which
invites people to relax and enjoy a 360-degree view over the expo site. roof gardens will be covered
with plants of the local coast. to leave the pavilion people stroll down a meandering ramp with
panoramic views onto the surrounding ocean and the islands.

service functions, like offices, technical and storage areas are located underneath the landscape
part of the building. after the period of the expo the building will house public and educational
facilities.

لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.

as a counter part to the virtual multi-media shows of the thematic exhibition, the kinetic facade
like the overall architecture of the pavilion evoke sensuous experiences through analogue means.
beside their function to control light conditions in the foyer and the best practice area the moving
the lamellas will create animated patterns on the façade. the choreography will span from subtle
local movements to overall waves effecting the whole length of the building. after sunset the analogue
visual effect of the moving lamellas is intensified by linear led bars, which are located at the inner
side of the front edge of the lamella. in opened position the led can light the neighboring lamella
depending on the opening angle. the bionic principle of the lamellas produce a consistent effect:
geometry, material, movement and light are seamlessly interrelated. the longer the single lamella -
the wider the opening angle - the bigger the area which is lit.

لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.

the foyer and the best practice area are naturally ventilated. therefore the interstitial spaces
between the cones were orientated towards the prevailing wind direction to create air nozzles.
in the large vertical exhibitions, air will be infused through the floor, to reduce the amount
of conditioned volume. during daytime the kinetic lamellas are used to control solar input.
they will be operated by energy gained through solar panels on the roof. the building’s
performance was analysed by detailed simulations to reduce energy consumption and increase
efficiency.

لینک ها فقط به اعضای سایت نمایش داده می شوند.

the different appearances of the building - open towards the expo site and compact towards
the sea- is also routed in the constraints of the site. facing the open sea the reinforced concrete
cones prevent the pavilion from damage through typhoons and high waves. the roof and the kinetic
facade will have a steel sub-structure. the kinetic facade will be produced out of GFRP and uses
the material characteristics and flexibility for its mode of operation.

and in particular the ceiling is made of a number of silver anodised aluminium honeycomb panels
with of 2mm holes to capture the sound. while the number of panels required for acoustic reasons
was high a special arrangement was carried out so that the ceiling feels light and almost transparent
and the room is naturally top lit.
